Radnor face-off specialist Cole Yeager heads the list of freshmen recruits for Yale University’s men’s lacrosse team.
Head coach Andy Shay has announced the Bulldogs’ Class of 2013. Shay will add 11 freshmen, including the first two Canadian-born players in program history, to the Bulldogs for the 2010 campaign.
Yeager, of Wayne, was a second-team All-Central League and Honorable Mention All-Phillylacrosse.com pick in 2009 in helping the Red Raiders tie for second in the league. He was named as the top face-off man in the nation in the faceoffclub.com preseason rankings.
Andrew Cordia, an attacker/midfielder, comes to New Haven out of St. Stephen’s/St. Agnes High School in Alexandria, Va. Cordia, one of four Blue Chip Lacrosse Camp participants in the Class of 2013, was an insidelacrosse.com top 100 recruit in 2009. He is also a member of the Iroquois National U-19 team.
Another Blue Chip Lacrosse alum, Deron Dempster, enters the fold as an attacker from Orangeville, Ont. The leading scorer for the Hill Academy, Dempster is currently playing in the semifinal round of Canada’s prestigious Minto Cup with the Orangeville Northmen.
Dempster will be joined on the attack by Kirby Zdrill, another Yale recruit from the Great White North. Zdrill, who is also playing in the Minto Cup as a member of the Edmonton Eclipse, played scholastically at the Westminster School in Edmonton, Alta.
Michael Lipin, a two-time All-America honoree from Delray Beach, Fla., comes to the Elm City from St. Andrew’s High School. Another Blue Chip Lacrosse Camp participant, Lipin was ranked as one of the top 40 midfielders in the nation by insidelacrosse.com.
Two-time All-Illinois midfielder Jamey Silveira joins the fray out of Palatine High School in Palatine, Ill. In addition to his on-field honors, Silveira was a 2009 Academic All-American.
The tallest player on the 2010 Bulldogs will be Bryan Walker, a 6’5, 220lb. midfielder from Birmingham, Mich. Walker scored three goals for Brother Rice High School in the 2009 Michigan State Championship game.
A trio of freshmen defensemen will help protect the Yale net in 2010. Columbus, Ohio native Phil Gross was named Defensive Player of the Year in the Buckeye State for his efforts with Upper Arlington High School.
Peter Johnson, who has recently finished a post-graduate year at Deerfield Academy, was a 2008 All-American at the Blake School in Minnetonka, Minn. Another All-American joining the Bulldogs’ defense is Michael McCormack. An insidelacrosse.com top 100 recruit, McCormack was the captain of the New York State Class A Champion West Islip Lions and earned a gold medal at the Long Island Empire State Games
A new face will spend time between the pipes for Yale, as Peter Spaulding comes to the Elm City from Huntingtown, Md. Spaulding was a 2009 All-American goalkeeper for the Calverton School and a Blue Chip Lacrosse Camp participant.
The 2010 Bulldogs are slated to open the regular season on Feb. 27, 2010 at Reese Stadium in New Haven against Holy Cross.
