Philly D1 highlights from the Inside Lacrosse Face-Off Yearbook

Some Philly highlights from the recently released Inside Lacrosse Face-Off Yearbook:

Colonial Athletic Association

Although picked as the No. 24 team in the country by the magazine editors, Drexel was tabbed for dead last in the conference by the CAA coaches in the Preseason Poll. The Dragons also feature three players on the Coaches Preseason All-Conference team: senior attackman Colin Ambler (Abington) senior defenseman Matt McCormick (Malvern Prep) and sophomore goalie Mark Manos (Salesianum, DE).

Atlantic Coast Conference

Virginia junior midfielder/attackman John Haldy (Haverford School) is listed as the “Breakout Stud” after playing a utility role last year.

Big East Conference

Villanova junior long stick midfielder Brian Karalunas is listed as the league’s “Breakthrough Star.” The Wildcats were picked to finish fourth in the Coaches’ Preseason Poll and feature sophomore face-off specialist Nolan Vihlen on the Coaches Preseason All-Conference team.

ECAC

Loyola, led by senior defenseman and All-Conference pick Steve Layne (Malvern Prep), is picked to win the conference by the coaches. Ohio State, led by senior midfielder Jimmy Green (Central Bucks East), is picked to be No. 2.

Ivy League

Penn is picked to finish last in the competitive seven-team field and features senior face-off specialist Justin Lynch on the All-Conference team.

MAAC

St. Joseph’s is picked to finish fifth and is led by All-Conference pick and sophomore midfielder Trevor Dougherty.

Top Defensive Units

Notre Dame, featuring senior long stick midfielder Mike Creighton (Malvern Prep), was ranked No. 4. Virginia, featuring senior defenseman Ken Clausen (Hill School), was No. 5.

Top Attack Units

Johns Hopkins, featuring junior Kyle Wharton (Haverford School), ranked No. 5.
