PA Express places strong second in Gold Division at Annual Vail Shootout

PA Express, a club based in Chester County, recently placed a strong second recently in the Gold Division of the Girls’ Scholastic Division at the annual Vail Shootout in Colorado.

PA Express fell to M & D Lax, 16-4, in the Gold Championship game, but the team excelled overall with a 5-1 record.

PA Express opened its play June 28 with an 18-2 victory over Team Utah as All-Tournament pick Morgan Obendorfer (Downingtown West) scored four goals and All-Tourney Colleen O’Malley (Great Valley), Lindsey Smith (Unionville), Julie Moran (Unionville), Erin Linthecum (Unionville) and Katie Hagen scored two goals each. Melissa Lloyd (Unionville) made three saves in the goal.

Also on June 28, PA Express routed Lakeshore Lacrosse, 16-4, as Linthicum and Smith notched four apiece and Moran, Obendorfer and McKenzie Rafferty (Downingtown East) each tallied a pair. Lloyd had four saves.

The next day PA Express handled highly-ranked Heros 2010, 12-10, as Obendorfer exploded for five of her six goals in the second half to help her squad overcome a 7-2 halftime deficit. Moran and O’Malley each added two goals and Lloyd made four saves. Smith added a goal and an assist and Linthicum contributed two assists.

On June 30, PA Express won twice to advance to the championship game. First it defeated Houston Heat, 10-4, as Obendorfer scored four and O’Malley had three while Rafferty and Moran had two each. Lloyd was strong with nine saves as PA Express pulled away after leading just 4-3 at the half.

PA Express then defeated MFL, 9-4, to reach the finals. In this win, O’Malley led a balanced attack with three goals while Ashley Delaney (Pottsgrove) had two goals and an assist and Smith, Rafferty and Hagen each added two goals. Linthicum had a goal and an assist and Moran contributed two assists while Lloyd turned aside eight shots.

In the championship game on July 1, M & D Lax was simply too strong, bolting to an 11-3 halftime lead despite 10 saves by Lloyd (14 saves overall). Obendorfer, Rafferty, Hagen and Eva Winiarski (Downingtown West) each scored for PA Express.
