Penn Charter senior goalie Dan Carr has signed a letter of intent to play next year at Lehigh University.
Carr said he chose Lehigh because of Mountain Hawk coaches Kevin Cassese (head coach) and Brendan Callahan (goalies).
“I hadn’t really considered it early on,” Carr said. “But I talked to coach Cassese and he got me on campus for a visit.
“It just felt right. Part of that was the school; it’s a great school and I want to study engineering. It’s one of the best places I could go for that. I not only liked coach Cassese, I liked the entire coaching staff. They are youthful and they are still playing.
“Also, to have a goalie coach like coach (Brendan) Callahan will be really helpful for me. He led the NCAA in save percentage as a junior and senor at Stony brook.”
Carr knows he will be counted on heavily this year for the young Quakers, who have the task of competing in the powerful Inter-Ac League and also playing a tough non-league schedule.
“We’re just like Lehigh, we’re going to be young,” he said. “Our defense is young, but they’re going to be very good.
“If we can work together as a team and set me up with the shots I want to see, I’m really excited about what I can do and what we can do as a team. I wouldn’t be playing goalie if I didn’t have fun with all the pressure that comes along with that.”
