Malvern prep senior midfielder Steve Dunn has signed a letter of intent to play at St. Joseph’s University.
Dunn said he liked the business school at St. Joseph’s as well as head coach Pat Cullinan.
“St. Joe’s was a great fit for me,” Dunn said. “It’s close and my parents can watch me play. I’m pretty sure I want to get into finance and the business school at St. Joe’s is awesome.
“Plus, coach Cullinan is really trying to turn the program around. I want to make an impact and help them.”
Dunn is also hoping to make an impact this year for Malvern Prep. The defending Inter-Ac League champion Friars lost several standouts in All-Americans Matt Mackrides and Chris Layne, but return a number of key players this year.
Malvern Prep also has extra motivation to excel after bowing to La Salle in the final Eastern Pennsylvania Scholastic Lacrosse Association championship game.
“It was tough losing to La Salle last year after getting that far, but I think we’ll come out this year and surprise people,” he said. “You don’t see a lot of players like Mtatt Mackrides and Chris Layne out there, but we’re real deep at midfield and I think we’ll put the ball in the back of the nets.
“We also have a strong defense. The Inter-Ac is obviously going to be very competitive. We won’t be able to compete for the state championship, so going for the Inter-Ac is the big key.”
