Malvern Prep senior goalie Wills Curley has committed to play next year at Brown University.

Curley said getting a chance at an Ivy League education was difficult to pass up

“My first recruiting letter came from Brown and that sparked my interest,” he said. “I got an invitation to go there in the summer and I talked to the coaches.

“I liked the school a lot; I liked the city (Prividence, R.I.), and it’s an Ivy League education. It’s hard to deny an acceptance.”

Curley, who is a member of the Art National Honor Society and Science National Honor Society at Malvern, plans to major either in business or environmental science.

“I like Providence,” he said. “It’s a city campus and it’s incorporated in the city. Walking through the campus, there are restaurants and stores right around the dorms. The buildings are historical.”

For now, he is focusing on a season with much promise at Malvern Prep. The Friars are defending Inter-Ac League champions and face a challenging schedule this year.

Curley will serve as backup to junior Andrew O’Connell, who has committed to North Carolina. But Curley will play a key role in helping shape the veteran and new players.

“I may not be a voice on the field, but I’m a senior who has been on the team for three years,” said Curley, a member of Team HEADstrong in the summer. “Being older and having experience, I get respect from the younger guys and the seniors.”

“If the new guys up on the team are able to connect with the starters, I think we’ll be a very successful team.”
