Lower Merion rising senior attackman Andrew Mongeluzzi has made a verbal commitment to play Division I lacrosse at Towson University.

Mongeluzzi, who is considering business as a career path, loved the atmosphere at the Maryland campus.

“I felt comfortable with the overall environment,” he said. “It’s just a place I felt I could see myself liking.”

At Towson, Mongeluzzi will join fellow Philly attackman Max Siskind of Henderson.

This summer, Mongeluzzi helped the Duke’s Lacrosse Club win its fourth straight Champ Camp crown with a tight win over Baltimore’s Belax.

“Belax was a very good competitor and we were down (4-1) at one point,” he said. “But we eventually got back into the flow. There is no greater feeling than winning the national championship with the Duke’s.

“I’ve never been to Blue Chip, but I have been to 205 (recruiting camp) and it’s nice to see kids in the camp on their respective teams. It’s just a bunch of guys having fun playing lacrosse.”

In the 2009 scholastic season, Mongeluzzi scored 48 goals, helping the Aces reach the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association tournament. He earned Honorable Mention honors and played on a vaunted 1-2-3 frontline with All-American Jordan Wolf (rising senior committed to Duke) and 69-goal scorer Matt Dilks.

“I look back on the past season as the best season of my lacrosse career,” Mongeluzzi said. “I don’t think I could be on a better unit than with the lefty shooter Matt Dilks and an excellent dodger like Jordan Wolf. Anyone would have killed to be in the situation I was in.”

Mongeluzzi is one of three Lower Merion seniors to commit to a Division I college; Wolf and midfielder Ahmad Zachary (Vermont) are the others.Seniors can sign National Letters of Intent during the early signing period Nov. 11-18.
