La Costa Canyon (CA) senior defenseman Reid Tudor has committed to play NCAA Division I lacrosse at the University of Pennsylvania.
Tudor, the No. 18 ranked senior in the most recent WestSisdeLax Elite 25 individual player rankings, said he chose Penn because he liked its academic reputation and the program’s new coach, Mike Murphy.
“The academics there are incredible, and I looked for a school with good academics where I could also play lacrosse,” Tudor said. “I liked what coach Murphy did at Haverford College, and Penn is a Division I school that’s a bit bigger. That’s exactly what I was looking for.”
Tudor, who is 5-foot-11, 170 pounds, said making the transition from a high school player in San Diego to an NCAA Division I player in Philadelphia will pose some challenges. But he is ready to meet them.
“The main thing people say is weather, but I don’t think that’s going to be a big deal,” he said. “The cold weather is a nice change around here once in a while. I’ll have to hit the weight room and become a little bit bigger, but I’m already starting to do that.”
