Emily Corcoran, Kimmy Keating and Margaret Corzel each scored four goals as host Merion Mercy defeated Villa Maria Academy, 15-13, Tuesday in an early-season battle of titans in the Athletic Association of Catholic Academies.
Merion Mercy (2-0, 1-0) got strong defense from Sarah Hospodar, Emily Corzel, and Molly Mullen. Freshman goalie Caili Guilday recorded eight saves.
Chelsea Fay scored four goals for defending champion Villa Maria (1-1, 0-1).
Strath Haven 14, Downingtown East 10
Emily Garrity scored her 300th career goal and finished with six goals and five assists as Strath Haven (ranked No. 2 in PA Media Rankings) held off the Cougars (ranked 10th).
Kelly Ruffini had three goals for the Panthers while Annalise Penikis and Ana White each added two. Molly DiEnno also scored. Lela Meunier (seven saves) and Olivia Kerrigan (five saves) split the duties in goal.
Kelly Devlin led the Cougars with four goals and Julianna Jochym had three goals while Kristen Blye added two and Emily Solenberger one. Allie Murray made 10 saves.
Downingtown West 16, Boyertown 16
Morgan Obendorfer scored five goals for the Whippets and Casey Kellogg and Steph Pirri added three apiece. Michelle Labricciosa and Kellyn Warren each had two and Devan Hibbs one. Emily Murdaugh made 10 saves.
Garnet Valley 15, Kennett 9
Allie Henry pumped in seven goals while Tori Mitros had three goals and three assists for the jaguars (3-0). Jenna VanWyk added two goals for GV while Halley Barnes, Natalie Lang and AnnaElise Morello had one goal apiece. Kate Stroup (seven saves) and
Kerri Anderson (10 saves) split the goaltending chores.
Katie Ferree had five goals for Kennett.
Great Valley 15, Haverford High 6
Colleen O’Malley had five goals and Kristina Hahn four for the Pats (2-0). Lauren Binstein added two goals and haley Sheehan had a goal and two assist while Sara McBride Jess Nawojski and Ali Karwoski also scored. Jenna Morris and Michelle McGreevy handled the goaltending duties and Kelsey Morgan had a strong defensive effort.
Catie Coyle scored two for the Fords while Liz Bassani, Brynn Becker, Katrina Geiger, Kelsey Leblanc and Jill Root added one each.
Upper Merion 6, Plymouth Whitemarsh 5
Erin Brobson scored the game-winner, Madi Beyer notched two goals and Kellie Manoppello had a goal and and two assists to lead Upper Merion. Devin Bowes and Chelsea Harris also scored. Megan Piotrowicz led PW with four goals and Charlotte Cornog added one. Goalie Lauren Mateja had some key saves late for UM.
Upper Moreland 13, Norristown 5
Alisha Pagano had four goals, Christi Torres added three and Lily Smith contributed two goals and four assists to lead Upper Moreland.
Christina DiPietro paced the Eagles with a pair of goals while Ashley Watson, Trisha Taylor and Taylor Foxworth also scored and Liana Benjamin had two groundballs.
Sarah Baumgardner made nine saves for the winning Bears and Norristown goalie Alex Silks posted 13 saves.
Interboro 15, Octorara 0
Steph Parcell had four goals, including the 200th of her career, and added three assists to lead the Bucs (2-1). Kate Kaut and Monica Parcell added two goals each and Danielle Haney had a goal and two assists. Brianna Thompson, Casey Fulton, Kelsea Cleaver, Danielle Lavallee and Ali Killian also scored for Interboro. Danielle Owen had her first career shutout.
Archbishop Wood 11, Penn Charter 10
Caitlyn Macarthy led Wood with four goals and Aubrie Ahrens added three while Alyssa Verrillo notched the game-winner. Kelly McVan, Jenn White and Haley Ozcowlski also scored and Kate Smart made 10 saves. Monica Butler led PC with a hat trick.
North Penn 21, Neshaminy 1
Abbie Hartman scored five goals and Lauren McDermott (two assists) and Danielle Horn added four apiece to pace the Maidens. Halie Lear added three goals and Ali Green a pair while Alyssa Culp, Roni Pickens and Macie Hauck each scored once. Brittany Hanrahan had one assist and four draw controls.
Episcopal Academy 13, St. Hubert 2
Sammi Arbitman scored three goals to lead EA (3-0).
Jenkintown 16, Lower Moreland 5
Carolyn Smith had five goals and Anika Ross three for the Drakes (2-0).
Central Bucks West 11, Council Rock South 10
Morgan Ashworth led the winning Bucks with four goals.
Wissahickon 15, Springfield-Montco 4
Ashley Bossert led Wissahickon with three goals and two assists.
CR North 15, CB South 8
Hannah Plappert had five goals and Casey Doyle added four for North whie Ely Plappert added two goals and five assists. Amy Griffith made 12 stops.
Ridley 17, Sun Valley 6
Jenna Massimo had five goals and Becky Donkin added four for the Green Raiders (1-1). Shaela Allen added two goals and four assists and Ashley Henderson had two goals while Megan Pitts made four saves and Maura Flynn had 1one in goal.
Springfield-Delco 14, Henderson 8
Madison Poplawski netted five goals and Val paolucci added three goals to lead the Cougars (1-1).
Souderton 13, Methacton 11
Julia Kudla and Lindsay Walbrandt each scored four goals for the Big Red while Kirsten Walther, Chelsea Manes, Kirsten Russell, Danny Notvest and Carley Kendall each had one.
