GA All-American Henrich leads list of recruits for University of Denver

Germantown Academy senior All-American midfielder Kate Henrich heads the list of seven recruits for the University of Denver women’s lacrosse team, which officially announced its class of 2013.

Head coach Liza Kelly announced the newest Pioneers: Henrich, Alex Befus, Kirsty Faulder, Brittany Ford, Jessica Gring, Kate Henrich, Stefanie Paskal, and Kate Prebil.

Henrich, a native of Lansdale, collected a school-record 96 goals and 151 points this year for 16-11 GA while earning first-team All-American and Inter-Ac League honors. She was a two-time second team All-Galaxy honoree in lacrosse, and played three years of varsity soccer for the Patriots. Henrich also played club lacrosse for Ultimate Goal Lacrosse (Blue).

Befus comes to the University of Denver from Air Academy High School in Colorado Springs, where she led the Kadets to their first ever Colorado State girls’ lacrosse championship this spring. Befus was the state’s leading scorer with 84 goals and 42 assists as a senior in the 2009 season. She was a two-time Rocky Mountain News/Colorado All-State honoree.

Faulder joins the Pioneers from Glengowrie, South Australia, where she was a four-year member of the Under-19 Women’s Australian squad and named an alternate in 2007. She also has played lacrosse for Brighton Lacrosse Club since 2002.

Ford hails from Chatham, N.J., where she attended Chatham High School. She was a three-year varsity letterwinner for the Chatham High School Cougars girls’ lacrosse team. As a junior in 2008, she helped the Cougars capture the conference, county and state championships along with making the school’s first ever appearance in the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association Tournament of Champions.

Gring joins the DU lacrosse team from Baltimore, Md. She attended Notre Dame Prep School and was a two-year member of the Blazers lacrosse team, which finished the 2009 season ranked No. 4 in the nation by Lax Power. Gring also played four years of club lacrosse, three years of varsity track and two years of varsity volleyball.

Paskal hails from Severna Park, Md., where she attended Archbishop Spalding High School and played four years of varsity lacrosse for the Cavaliers. She was named an academic All-American and was a member of the National School girls’ team in 2008. She also played three years of field hockey for Archbishop Spalding and played for Chesapeake Lacrosse Club.

Prebil rounds out the 2009-10 incoming class for the Pioneers. She comes to DU from Baltimore, Md., and Roland Park Country School. Prebil played four years of lacrosse and field hockey for the Roland Park Reds and also played five years of club lacrosse.

The Pioneers return 23 players from the 2009 squad, including All-MPSF honoree Ali Flury (Arnold, Md.) and MPSF Co-Newcomer of the Year/goalie Ashley Harman (Boyertown). DU went finished the 2009 season with a 10-8 overall record and went 4-2 in the MPSF.
