There’s just something about Philadelphia-based Eastern University that is appealing to kids from North San Diego County this year.
Eastern picked up its fourth commitment Thursday from a North County player, as Santa Fe Christian senior middie Ron Johnson said he will play for the NCAA Division III school.
Johnson will join teammate Matt Kenyon, Mt. Carmel senior David Darling and Westview senior Brendan Booth in the Keystone State this fall. Eastern has also nabbed a Texan in Westwood senior Ryan Cassidy.
“For me, it’s because I go to a small school and I’m used to it,” Johnson said. “I really like the coach. He’s a really good guy, and I like all the other kids who are going. It’ll be a good experience.”
Johnson said he anticipates that can succeed at the college level.
“I think it’ll go pretty well,” he said. “I think I can keep up. It’s a big move. I’ve just got to adjust to it.”
