Council Rock South senior attack player Lea Britton has made a verbal commitment to play Division I lacrosse at Temple University.
Britton also considered Drexel, Connecticut and West Chester, and will major in Kinesiology.
She scored 40 goals and had 17 assists for the Golden Hawks last season and was named to the Suburban One League National Conference first team.
Britton also plays basketball and field hockey for CR South.
She is a newcomer to field hockey, having just picked it up last year as a junior, but is a veteran of basketball and at first thought she’d play basketball in college.
“I thought my chances of getting a scholarship were better in lacrosse and besides, I just love the game,” she said. “I’ll miss playing my other sports, though.
“I think playing other sports helped give me versatility. I’m used to doing all kinds of different things.”
Britton plays club lacrosse for the Phantastix, where she played defense.
“I played a lot of lacrosse over the summer and I decided to just play for myself and do my best, and not worry about which college coaches were looking at me,” she said. “I think that worked out for me.
“I do play different positions on my high school team and my club team and to me the important thing is to just be on the field. I’ll play wherever I’m needed to help the team.”
At Temple, Britton will play under head coach Bonnie Rosen, a Harriton grad who was inducted into the Eastern Pennsylvania Chapter of the U.S. Lacrosse Hall of Fame this year.
Britton also wanted to thank Dave Hurwitz, her coach at Council Rock Lacrosse Association, for teaching her the fundamentals of the sport.
Britton is a member of the National Honor Society, the Math National Honor Society and the French National Honor Society.
“It’s good to be well rounded and have good academics so while the meetings and tutoring do take up a lot of time, the National Honor Society is very important to me,” she said.
