Senior captain Deb Sloan (West Chester East) had four goals to lead Delaware past Old Dominion, 8-6, Thursday in the semifinals of the Colonial Athletic Association women’s lacrosse championships at William & Mary.
The No. 2-seeded Blue Hens (10-7) advance to play in the finals on Sat., 1 p.m. and will face No. 4 Towson, winners of the first semifinal game versus William & Mary, 15-10.
ODU rallied late from a 7-4 deficit and drew within 7-6 on a late tally by Rebecca Hartrum (Springfield-Delco), but Delaware controlled the ball for most of the remaning time and melted the clock down to 30.7 seconds before Sloan iced the game with an open-net goal.
Delaware senior defender Amanda Lahiff (North Penn) also had a strong game.
Ashley Kellogg (Downingtown West) had two assists and Lisa Bernardini (George School) had one for ODU (11-5) while goalie Sarah Geary (Springfield-Delco) made 13 saves.
This marks the first time in four tries that Delaware has won a semifinal game and advanced to the CAA finals.
Towson 15, William & Mary 10
Jacie Kendall (Souderton) had two goals as the Tigers (12-5) advanced to the CAA finals. Emily Geary (Radnor) had 10 saves for W&M.
Stanford 14, Louisville 12
Julie Christy (Conestoga), Bess Siegfried (Agnes Irwin) and Amanda Schwab (Harriton) each scored once as the Cardinal (13-4) held on for a non-conference win. Bergan Foley (Gwynedd Mercy Academy) had four goals for Louisville (9-7).
Division III MAC semifinals
Elizabethtown 19, Eastern 7
The Eagles fell to top-seeded and #16 Elizabethtown (16-2) in the Middle Atlantic Conference semifinals as Kelsea Kozak (Sun Valley) scored three goals.
Grace Griffith scored three goals for Eastern (11-7) and Kristin Brownett added a pair. Jessie Basch scored her 201st career goal to give the Eagles their last lead of the game with 17:46 to play in the opening half.
