The Twist 2011 club team went undefeated Sunday in the Ultimate Performance Eighth Annual Fall Shootout & Clinic at Broadneck High near Annapolis, Md.
The Twist juniors opened with a 9-2, win over LB3 Blue as attackmen Beau Jones (Germantown Academy) poured in five goals. Twist then edged Tri-State (NJ) 6-5 as Sean Reilly (Central Bucks East) was strong at the face-off X.
Twist closed its day with a 4-3 victory over NextLevel of Washington D.C., scoring the game-winner with three minutes to playa and holding the opposition scoreless in the second half.
The event lasted two days overall. Philly teams HEADstrong Elite and Mesa Fresh 2011 competed in the first day’s action on Saturday.
Mid-Atlantic Showcase postponed, will be this weekend at McDonogh School
More than 2,800 players representing 120 teams are expected to compete Saturday and Sunday at Owings Mills, Md., in the 3rd Annual Mid-Atlantic Showcase Tournament at McDonogh School. More than 200 college coaches from Division I to III are expected to attend in what is generally considered the top girls’ club team recruiting tourney for the fall. the event was rescheduled from last week, when wet fields caused postponement.
Elite teams from Pennsylvania as well as Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, New Jersey, Colorado, California and Florida, will be competing in the 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015 divisions. The defending champion of the 2010 division (senior girls) is Philly-based Phantastix.
According to the schedule put out before the postponement, Philly-based Lenape Premier is slated to compete in the 2010 division while the Phantastix, Ultimate Goal Lacrosse and PA Express teams have squads entered in the younger divisions.
