The first half of the Philadelphia Wings season has been a rousing success.
The team is atop the National Lacrosse League’s Eastern Division with a 7-1 record and Sunday the Wings’ Geoff Snider was named MVP of the 2008 All-Star Game in Edmonton when he had three goals and three assists to key the East to a 17-16 overtime victory over the West.
Snider, a transition player, also picked up 28 loose balls and won 31 of 36 face-offs in the contest. His Philadelphia teammate, Athan Iannucci also had a stellar All-Star Game, scoring one goal along with five assists, including the assist on the game-winning goal by Rochester Knighthawk Shawn Williams 31 seconds into OT.
Meanwhile, Wings defender Taylor Wray made his way onto the score sheet as well, getting a goal in the fourth quarter on his only shot of the game.
Overall, Wings players played a role in 11 of the East Division’s 17 goals scored, picked up 32 percent of the team’s loose balls, and took all but two of the team’s face-offs.
