Athan Iannucci scored four goals to help host Philadelphia down Toronto, 11-9, Sunday night, snapping a three-game losing streak in the National Lacrosse League (NLL).
A crowd of 10,244 at the Wachovia Center saw goalie Rob Blasdell make 51 saves as the Wings moved back into a first-place tie with Minnesota (both 8-4) in the Eastern Division with four games left in the season.
“Our defense played great all night,” said Wings Dave Huntley. “We got a little off the mark (the last few games) but it seemed like we got back on track. This was an important game.”
After a 1-1 first period, Iannucci scored three of his goals and Merrick Thomson (two goals, three assists) added another as the Wings took a 5-3 halftime edge.
Toronto’s Blaine Manning scored the first goal of the second half, but Philadelphia netted four unanswered goals, by Kyle Sweeney (Springfield-Delco), John Christmas (Lower Merion), Iannucci and Jamie Rooney to go up by five with one quarter remaining.
Jake Bergey and Christmas each finished with a goal and three assists. Sweeney added one assist. Ryan Benesch led the Rock in scoring with four points (three goals, one assist).
