The season girls’ kicks into high gear today as No. 4 Great Valley hosts No. 2 Radnor and No. 5 Strath Haven entertains No. 3 Bayard Rustin. The second Phillylacrosse.com Scholastic Girls Top 10 Poll:
1. Springfield-Delco (1-0) – The Cougars disposed of Penn Charter, 16-4, last week and host New Jersey power Shawnee Wednesday. Last week: No. 1
2. Radnor (1-0) – The Raiders were positively awesome in Friday’s 21-0 whitewashing of West Chester East while giving their ageless coach, Phyllis Kilgour, her 500th career win. They face a stern test today at No. 4 Great Valley. Last week: No. 6
3. Bayard Rustin (1-0) – After thumping West Chester East, 14-3, the Golden Knights travel to No. 5 Strath Haven today. Last week: No. 2
4. Great Valley (2-0) – The Patriots crushed Central League foes Haverford, 20-6, and Penncrest, 19-2, but the real test comes today against Radnor. Last week: No. 4
5. Strath Haven (3-0) – The Panthers coasted in routs over Avon Grove, 20-6, Kennett, 16-4, and Plymouth Whitemarsh, 15-2, but we’ll find out much more against Rustin today. Last week: No. 5
6. Abington (3-0) – The Ghosts made a rather large statement by crushing former No. 3 Ridley, 17-5, and open their Suburban One national Conference season Thursday against Neshaminy.
7. Archbishop Carroll (2-0) – The Patriots followed up a 19-1 rout of Kennedy-Kenrick by thumping host Conestoga, 11-6, Monday. Last week: No. 7
8. Downingtown West (3-0) – The Whippets continued to cruise Monday by blitzing Garnet Valley 23-4 as Sarah Phillips scored eight goals. They also had easy wins last week over Penncrest, 20-9, and Avon Grove, 24-10. They have a Ches-Mont League game today at Coatesville. Last week: unranked.
9. Boyertown (2-0) – The Bears throttled former No. 9 North Penn, 18-4, in their opener and opened its Pioneer Athletic Conference play with an 18-9 win over Owen J,. Roberts. We find out more about them today when they play at Downingtown East. Last week: unranked.
10. Downingtown East (3-0) – The undefeated Cougars edged Ridley, 8-7, Tuesday as Kat Sasco scored three goals. They host Boyertown today. Last week: unranked.
Under consideration: Notre Dame, Episcopal Academy, Unionville, Conestoga, Ridley. Pottstown, Springside School.
