Several key games do the week’s schedule, as No. 1 La Salle will travel to No. 2 Malvern Prep Thursday while No. 3 Haverford School hosts No. 4 Penn Charter Friday and No. 5 Ridley hosts No. 8 Springfield-Delco Thursday night. This week’s Phillylacrosse.com Scholastic Boys Top 10 Poll:
1. La Salle (15-1) – The Explorers have won 14 straight games, including Saturday’s 10-2 romp over No. 6 Conestoga. They are primed for Thursday showdown at No. 2 Malvern Prep Last week: No. 1.
2. Malvern Prep (8-1) – The Friars geared up for the La Salle game by taking an Inter-Ac win Tuesday over Germantown Academy, 10-5, as Matt Mackrides scored three goals. Last week: No. 2.
3. Haverford School (6-4) – The Fords, who had lost four out of five, rebounded Tuesday with an Inter-Ac triumph over Episcopal Academy, 5-2 behind strong defense and eight saves by Dan Wigrizer. They host No. 4 Penn Charter Friday. Last week: No. 3.
4. Penn Charter (9-2) – The Quakers warmed up for their battle at Haverford Friday by dumping Chestnut Hill, 12-8, Tuesday in as Colin Still scored four goals. Last week: No. 4
5. Ridley (10-1) – The Green Raiders walloped Lower Merion, 11-5, Tuesday as Mark Kane tallied four goals. They host No. 8 Springfield-Delco Thursday night. Last week: No. 5.
6. Conestoga (7-2) – The. Pioneers did not look like themselves in Saturday’s loss to La Salle, but did rebound with wins over Abington (10-6) Monday and Harriton (15-4) Tuesday. They host dangerous Radnor Friday. Last week: No. 6.
7. St. Joseph’s Prep (8-3) – The Hawks earned two easy Catholic League wins, 16-4 over Monsignor Bonner Monday and 15-1 over Cardinal O’Hara Tuesday as Kenny Lankford notched three goals. They play at Archbishop Carroll today. Last week: No. 7.
8. Springfield-Delco (8-2) – The Cougars enter the poll for the first time after winning their seventh straight, a rare 12-0 shutout over Upper Darby Tuesday as goalie Austin Kaut made 16 saves They play at Ridley Thursday night in a key Central League game. Last week: unranked.
9. Downingtown East (5-5) – The Cougars are starting to pick up steam after a tough slow start against top-flight competition. They smacked Bayard Rustin, 16-1, Monday and Hempfield, 13-2, Tuesday. They host Unionville in the Suburban League Friday. Last week: unranked.
10. Germantown Academy (5-3) – The Patriots are now in the meaty Inter-Ac part of the schedule. They host Episcopal Academy Thursday and Haverford School next Tuesday. Last week: unranked.
Under consideration: Lower Merion, Episcopal Academy, Garnet Valley, Central Bucks East, Abington, Great Valley.
