It was a monumental day for Philadelphia-area boys’ lacrosse Wednesday.
The Haverford School traveled to Chestertown, Md., to face Loyola Blakefield a Maryland power and the top-ranked team in the country according to Inside Lacrosse. The Fords got two goals from Kurt Watkinson and Brendan McGrath and strong goaltending from Dan Wigrizer (10 saves) to claim a 7-5 victory and improve to 4-0.
Haverford is ranked 19th by Inside Lacrosse and first by Phillylacrosse.com in the Philadelphia area.
Meanwhile, Phillylacrosse.com’s third-ranked team, La Salle, got an overtime goal from Randy Forster to knock off Baltimore’s McDonogh School, 9-8.
Pete Schwartz, Conrad Ridgway and Westy Hopkins each had two goals for the Explorers (4-1), who dropped the Eagles to 6-1.
McDonogh – which plays Phillylacrosse.com’s No. 2-ranked team, Malvern Prep, Saturday – features one of the nation’s top scholastic goalies in Tyler Fiorito, who is headed to Princeton.
