Ryan Boyle collected three goals and two assists and the two-time defending champion Philadelphia Barrage opened their Major League Lacrosse season Sunday by defeating the Washington Bayhawks, 17-12, at the Virginia Beach SportsPlex.
All of Boyle’s goals came in a 7-0 spurt by the Barrage in the final 10 minutes of the opening period when Philadelphia seized a 9-2 lead.
Bobby Horsey (West Chester East) scored three goals for the Barrage and goalkeeper Brian Dougherty (Episcopal Academy) posted 19 saves. Roy Colsey added two tallies for Philadelphia.
Bill McGlone (Ridley) had a goal and an assist for the Bayhawks.

Former Barrage assistant coach Tom Slate (Springfield-Delco) made his head-coaching debut for the visiting Dragons in a heartbreaking loss at Chicago.
