Cabrini College’s men’s lacrosse team has been selected as the pre-season favorite in the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) coaches’ poll.

The Cavaliers won the last eight Pennsylvania Athletic Conference (PAC) titles; the league changed names this year. Cabrini received all seven possible first-place votes for a total of 49 points to finish ahead of Shenandoah University.

“It is always a great honor to be recognized by your peers,” said Cabrini coach Steve Colfer. “We are excited by the opportunity to defend our conference championship from 2008, as well as, play for the first-ever CSAC championship in men’s lacrosse.”

Under Colfer, the Cavaliers have earned seven NCAA berths, advancing to the quarterfinal round of the Division III NCAA Tournament in 2008. The Cavaliers have been undefeated in conference play since Colfer took the reins in 2001 and enter the 2009 season with a 65-0 record against conference opponents. At the end of last season, the team was ranked 6th in the nation by the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association.

Shenandoah University earned a total of 38 points to finish in second place in the poll.  Marywood University was selected third with 36 points.

Centenary College (28), Neumann College (22), Immaculata University (21), and Gwynedd-Mercy College (10) rounded out the voting.

The 2009 CSAC Championship begins with semifinal action on Wednesday, April 29th.  The CSAC Championship Game is set for Saturday, May 2nd.
