Henderson senior midfielder/defender Melissa Nollen has made a commitment to play Division II lacrosse at NCAA runner-up West Chester University.

Henderson senior Melissa Nollen has committed to West Chester

Nollen was a Third Team Ches-Mont League pick last year for the Warriors. She plays club lacrosse for the Cyclones.

Nollen, a member of the National Honor Society, plans to major in Education and become a Special Education teacher.

“I chose West Chester because I love the atmosphere there,” she said. “My sister is graduating from there in May and I like how close it is.”

Last year the Rams finished 19-2 and bowed to Adelphia in the NCAA championship game. West Chester has reached the NCAA title game eight times in the 10 years it has been held (two titles) in Division II under coach Ginny Martino.

“The team was very welcoming and they really made me feel a part of something when I went for my visit,” Nollen said.

“It’s a great program and I am excited to be a part of that. I also like the fact I can go for a home-cooked meal every once in a while. I also like the town; it’s really unique.”

Nollen believes Henderson can challenge in the Ches-Mont in 2011.

“I am really excited,” she said. “We are kind of young, but I think we can pull through if we all work together as a team.”
