Avon Grove rising senior defenseman Kevin Barrow has committed to St. Joseph's

set a school record for wins (13-5) and win their first playoff game (over Strath Haven).

Barrow plays for the Duke’s Lacrosse Club and was a member of the Duke’s 1 club that claimed the title at Champ Camp. He also played this summer for Mesa Fresh 2011 and was selected as an adidas All-American while also playing in the eastern Pennsylvania Scholastic Lacrosse association Showcase..

A member of the National Honor Society, Barrow plans to major either in pre-law or business. He said he liked the location of St. Joe’s and the direction of the team, which will play in the Colonial Athletic Association for the first time in 2011.

“I like how it’s right outside of Philly; in the suburbs in suburbs and not too far from home so my parents can see the games,” he said. “Academically, the big part is that it fit my needs because I am interested in law or business.

“Also, I am optimistic about the program. They are bringing in a lot of good players and they are definitely going in the right direction. They have switched into the Colonial Athletic Association (from the MAAC) and we’ll play teams like Drexel, Villanova and Delaware. I really like play against the best.’’

Barrow noted that St. Joe’s coach Pat Cullinan coached Avon Grove coach Eric Jackson as an assistant at West Chester University.

Barrow said the Devils – who enjoyed their best Ches-Mont League finish ever by going 8-2 and finishing in third place, – have established themselves as a league contender. He said the team has even higher expectations in 2011.

“I was really happy with the success last year; it’s something we’ve been working toward,” he said. “Our main goal for the year was to win a playoff game and we accomplished that.

“This year we want to go even further. We are working hard in the off season and we will have almost 20 seniors this year. We are in sync as a program and we really want to go deep into the playoffs next year.”

Barrow joins fellow rising senior Trevor Hornby (midfielder, Marist) as a Division I recruit.
