Agnes Irwin coach Jen Duckenfield said it was like waking up on Christmas morning and finding the perfect gift.

Duckenfield and Agnes Irwin hosted the “Bold in the Cold” pre-practice season playday Saturday and the weather was hardly worthy of the event’s name.

With temperatures in the mid-70s amid sunny skies, the heavy rain waited until the last of the 23 teams finished their 3-game sets on two fields, at Agnes Irwin and Radnor Memorial Park.

“It was great to wake up in February and get to play lacrosse in beautiful weather,” said Duckenfield. “Instead of Bold in the Cold it was ‘Beat the Heat.’ It was an excellent day of lacrosse. The girls had a lot of fun; they enjoyed the weather and seeing each other.”

The playday featured teams comprised of players from many of Philly’s top Inter-Ac League and District 1 squads as well as teams from Delaware, New Jersey and Berks County.

Inter-Ac teams begin practice this week and the PIAA teams can begin official practices on Monday, March 6.
