From Press Release

The road to consecutive NCAA Tournament berth No. 11 will start at No. 11 for the University of Pennsylvania women’s lacrosse team as the Quakers have been ranked No. 11 in both the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Preseason Top-20 and the Cascade Division I Preseason Media Poll.

The Red and Blue will celebrate the 10th anniversary of its 2007 Final Four team this season, and have made a trip to the NCAA Tournament in each subsequent season – the sixth-longest active streak of national tournament appearances.

Penn, which advanced to the NCAA Quarterfinals in 2016 and finished last season ranked No. 9, is the highest-ranked of the three Ivy League teams in the preseason coaches poll – ahead of No. 13 Princeton and No. 15 Cornell.

Penn will play six games against teams ranked in the IWLCA Preseason Top-20. In addition to home Ivy games against the Tigers (April 19) and Big Red (March 4), Penn will have road games at No. 2 Maryland (March 22), No. 9 Northwestern, and No. 20 Johns Hopkins (February 25) with a non-conference home game against No. 10 Duke (March 18).

2017 opponents for the Red and Blue ranked in the Cascade Media Poll include No. 2 Maryland, No. 9 Northwestern, No. 10 Duke, No. 13 Princeton, No. 16 Cornell, and No. 18 Johns Hopkins with Dartmouth also receiving votes.

The Quakers return three All-Ivy selections from their 2016 squad which won Penn’s ninth Ivy League championship in the past 10 years – midfielder Alex Condon, defender Megan Kelly (Moorestown), and goalkeeper Britt Brown.

Condon, a third-team IWLCA All-American and first-team All-Ivy choice in 2016, had 41 goals while also ranking second on the team with 23 caused turnovers. She leads a trio of Quakers named preseason All-American by Inside Lacrosse, joined by Kelly and defender Katy Junior.

Penn opens the 2017 season on February 18 at Delaware. The home opener for the Red and Blue is March 4 against Cornell at 1 p.m.
