Nappi helps Notre Dame top Merion Mercy, 13-8, for Rooney Cup

Claire Nappi collected six goals, one assist, seven groundballs, five draw controls and two caused turnovers today to lead visiting Academy of Notre Dame to a 13-8 non-league win over Merion Mercy for the Rooney Cup.

Notre Dame celebrates winning the Rooney Cup


The Rooney Cup is played to benefit the Kelly Rooney Foundation. Kelly Rooney, the mother of three Merion Mercy graduates and one Sacred Heart grad, three of whom played lacrosse, passed away after a courageous battle with breast cancer on July 11, 2006.

Makenzie Irvine added three goals and an assist for the Fighting Irish (7-3) while Claire Gola had two goals and an assist as well as three groundballs, two draw controls and a caused turnover.

Arianna Lavells led Merion Mercy (3-4) with four goals and an assist.
