This is one of a series of posts listing Philly women earning league/post-season honors

The conference champion Cabrini women’s lacrosse team was rewarded for its on the field success, as the Cavaliers claimed 11 Colonial States Athletic Conference End of the Year Awards, including the league’s top player, defensive player and coach.

Sophomore Sasha Wozniak (Spring-Ford) was named the 2016 CSAC Player of the Year, while junior Jess Breuning (St. Hubert) was named the first ever CSAC Women’s Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Year. Head coach Jackie Neary also collected her fifth consecutive CSAC Coach of the Year award.

Wozniak and Breuning were joined on the All-CSAC First Team by senior Mo O’Connell, while sophomore Jackie Neary (Kingsway, NJ) and freshman Katie Kucia (Archbishop Carroll) were named to the Second Team. Juniors Allie Vallen (Maple Shade, NJ) and Megan Barlow (Academy Park) received honorable mention, while senior Krista Hoffman (Bonner Prendergast) was named to the CSAC Sportsmanship Team.

After missing the 2015 season due to injury, Wozniak wasted little time in regaining the form that made her 2014 CSAC Rookie of the Year. The sophomore lead the Blue and White with 65 points on 47 goals and 18 assists, each among the top performance in the CSAC.

Wozniak scored at least three goals nine times, including a trio of five goal games. Three of her tallies also clinched victories for the Cavaliers, securing wins over Marywood, Rosemont and Neumann.

Wozniak is the fourth Cavalier in as many years to earn CSAC Player of the Year honors, joining Lacie Doubet (2013, 2015) and Melissa Scanzano (2014).

A three-time All-CSAC performer, Breuning is a solid all-around contributor for the Cavaliers. A starter in 15 games for Cabrini, the junior registered 38 goals, six assists, 48 ground balls, 26 caused turnovers and 68 draw controls on the season.

Breuning posted 12 multi-goal games and controlled at least six draws on seven occasions. The junior scored at least one goal and controlled at least one draw in all 15 contests, while causing at least one turnover and securing at least one ground ball in 13 games.

This is the 10th CSAC Coach of the Year accolade for Neary, who lead the Cavaliers to their fourth consecutive undefeated league slate and the top seed in the upcoming CSAC tournament. The Blue and White will enter the tournament after a perfect 9-0 conference mark and an 11-5 record overall.

O’Connell stepped off the basketball court and took over the Cabrini defensive effort. The senior leads the team and ranks second in the CSAC with 30 caused turnovers, while her 29 draw controls rank third on the team and 40 ground balls fourth.

Like Breuning, Neary is a stat-stuffer whose contributions reach all four corners of the pitch. The sophomore has tallied 25 goals and 29 points, while controlling 37 draws, causing 22 turnovers and securing 33 ground balls, each of which ranks among the top five on the team.

Kucia made an immediate impact on the Blue and White defense as a rookie. The freshman caused 16 turnovers and secured 32 ground balls during her first collegiate campaign. Kucia scooped at least three ground balls seven times, including six ground balls against Rowan.

Vallen was an integral cog on the CSAC’s top scoring offense, pairing 25 goals and 15 assists for 40 total points, third on the team behind Wozniak and Breuning. The junior also controlled 16 draws and scooped 24 ground balls.

This is the second All-CSAC honor for Barlow, who ranked second in the CSAC with an 8.77 goals against average. The sophomore boasted a .471 save percentage, while recording 99 saves on the year.

Hoffman, who battled injuries for much of the season, has seen action in three of the Blue and White’s last four contests, scoring two goals with a ground ball.
