A Perfect 10!

For the tenth season in a row, the University of Pennsylvania women’s lacrosse team will compete for a national championship after earning an at-large selection to the 2016 NCAA Division I Women’s Lacrosse Championship.

The Quakers – who earned the No. 7 overall seed in the tournament – will play unseeded Wagner in the First Round on May 13 at Towson University. The winner will advance to play the winner of Towson-Old Dominion.

Penn is seeded for the fifth time in the NCAA Championship, and the No. 7 seed is Penn’s first since entering the 2010 tournament as the No. 8 seed.

Each of the 26 teams selected for the 2016 NCAA Division I Women’s Lacrosse Championship is looking to advance to the Final Four which will be held at Talen Energy Stadium in Chester, Pa. – the home of the Philadelphia Union of MLS.

Penn has appeared in the last nine NCAA Tournaments, reaching the Final Four in 2007, 2008, 2009 with a title game appearance in 2008. The selection to the NCAA Championship extends the nation’s sixth-longest streak of national tournament trips. The only teams with longer active streaks of NCAA appearances are Maryland (26), Virginia (20), Duke (18), Northwestern (12) and North Carolina (11).

Last year, Penn defeated Albany, 11-10 in overtime, in the First Round before suffering a 13-10 loss to No. 4 Syracuse in the Second Round.

The Quakers – which boast Tewaaraton Award nominee and Ivy League Attacker of the Year Nina Corcoran – are 13-4 during the 2016 season.

The Quakers will take on a Wagner team which went 10-8 this season and defeated Bryant, 11-7, in the NEC Championship Game. The Quakers and Seahawks have never met in women’s lacrosse.
