Sophomore Dom DeFazio (Hatboro-Horsham) of the No. 15 Stevenson University men’s lacrosse team was honored by the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) as the USILA/Lids Team Sports Division III South Defensive Player of the Week after his efforts in a pair of victories last week.
DeFazio, who earlier this week was named the ECAC South Defensive Player of the Week as well as the MAC Commonwealth Defensive Player of the Week, had four caused turnovers, including a key one with under a minute remaining, as the Mustangs toppled top-ranked and defending national champion Tufts on Tuesday night in an 11-10 victory. He also collected six ground balls in the win. DeFazio then added three caused turnovers and picked up six ground balls in a conference victory at Hood College on Saturday.
In 2015, DeFazio leads the Mustangs with 17 caused turnovers, while his 29 ground balls are also tops on the squad. His 17 caused turnovers are good for sixth in the MAC Commonwealth
Stevenson (5-4) moved up five spots in the latest USILA Division III poll and is now ranked No. 15 nationally. The Mustangs travel to Lynchburg College on Saturday for a 7:00 non-conference contest.
