Sowers led the Cardinals to their first Disteict 1 championship and to the quarterfinals of the PIAA tournament in 2016, also earning Co-Player of the Year. Sowers, a freshman expected to make an immediate impact at Princeton, collected 59 goals and 122 assists this year and earned US Lacrosse All-American honors.

His assists gave him a national record of 403 in his career. His 596 points is a state record. He finished with 196 career goals. Sowers’ ability to play-make from X was unprecedented by most observers; he helped Michael Mullen score an area-high 104 goals in 2016 and set a state record with 296 career goals. Sowers’ talents were on display in an international forum this summer when he earned All-World honors in helping Team USA win the FIL U-19 championship in Coquitlam, British Columbia.

Marie McCool, a Co-Player of the Year in 2014, helped lead UNC to the National championship and finished the season with 63 points (46G, 17A). She also had team-highs in groundballs (49) and caused turnovers (25).

Also on the list of finalists for United Women’s Lacrosse League Player of the Year is Philadelphia Force’s Kara Mupo, who had a league-high 23 goals..
