From Press Release
Rutgers has announced its lacrosse captains for the 2016 season. Leading the Scarlet Knights onto the field will be seniors Halley Barnes (Garnet Valley), Addington Elliott (Rumson, N.J.), and Taylor Pennell (New Egypt, N.J.).
“They’re a good mix and they all work well with each other,” said head coach Laura Brand-Sias. “They bring different pieces to the table. They all have different leadership qualities that work very well together and we have good relationships with them. For them to be that go-between from the coaching staff to the team is very important.”
Barnes – the Phillylacrosse.com Co-Player of the Year in 2011 – is RU’s second-leading returning scorer from last season, when she posted a career-high 20 goals and nine assists for 29 points. Her play was equally valuable on the draw, where she collected 25 wins on the year.
Elliott enters her second year as a starter for the Scarlet Knights. She made 17 starts on the defensive end for Rutgers last season.
The Scarlet Knights’ third captain, Pennell, serves in the role for the second consecutive year. A veteran player, Pennell started all 18 games defensively and ended the 2015 season third on the team with a career-high 24 ground balls.
Rutgers begins the season on Saturday, Feb. 13 at Villanova. The Scarlet Knights will play their first home contest of 2016 on Feb. 21 against Johns Hopkins.
