This is one of a series of previews for the 2016 Philly lacrosse season

Wissahickon High School
League: PIAA, American Conference, Suburban One

Head Coach: Dan Layfield, 2 years

Last year’s record: 14-5, (finished 2nd in the league to Upper Dublin, beat Holy Ghost Prep in playoffs, lost to Penncrest in the 2nd round

Key returnees: Kyle Wolf (close), Eric Kauffman (attack), JD Scannapieco (close)

Coach’s Outlook for 2016: “Lost a lot of senior leadership from last year. Excited to start the season and work towards a successful 2016 campaign. There are some awesome rematches including Abington, Ridley, and Holy Ghost Prep which were very close games last year as well as some great challenges on our schedule from Radnor and a strong Upper Dublin team. Our young offense will need to step up and fill the gaps as we lost a lot of production from last years team. I am excited that we have such talented young players who are chomping at the bit to get out and show what they’ve got.”

Upper Merion High School

League: Suburban One-American

Head Coach: Brady McCormick, entering 9th season as HC

Last year’s record: 5-13

Key returnees: Will Borkowski – Midfield, Nick Freda – Midfield, Dante Labricciosa – Defense, CJ Rose – Defense, Johnny Salamy – Goalie

Coach’s Outlook for 2016: “The coaches are working hard to build a strong foundation for success with the team. This season we will have many younger guys in key roles which will give us the ability to turn the program around or spend another season rebuilding.”
