From Press Release
Penn State women’s lacrosse midfielder Katie O’Donnell (Henderson) was tabbed the Epoch/Lacrosse Magazine National Player of the Week for her performances this past week in a pair of NCAA Tournament wins.
O’Donnell tallied a total of eight goals, scoring a hat trick in Friday’s 16-6 win over Winthrop and supplying a career-high five goals in an upset over No. 2 Florida on Sunday.
While O’Donnell was dominant offensively, going 4-for-5 on free-position attempts and scoring on eight of 13 shots, arguably her biggest contribution was winning an overtime draw control against the Gators. Her long pass off the draw win led to a fastbreak goal that won the game and sent the Nittany Lions to the NCAA Quarterfinals for the fourth time in five years.
O’Donnell – the Phillylacrosse.com Co-Player of the Year in 2014 – is tied for second on the team with 45 goals and 49 points and has a team-high 13 goals from the 8-meter. She has scored in 18 of 19 games this season and tallied nine games with at least three goals and four with at least four markers.
The 11th-ranked Nittany Lions (13-6) will host seventh-seeded and No. 14 Penn in a Saturday contest with a spot in the NCAA Semifinals on the line. Opening draw is set for Noon with free streaming coverage on BTN2Go.
Tickets to the game are available by visiting the Bryce Jordan Center Ticket Office during normal business hours (Monday-Friday 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m.) or by calling 1-800-NITTANY. Admission prices are $8 for adults, $5 for children 12 and under, PSU and Penn students with valid ID, $3 for groups of 20 or more (advance sales only).
