From Press Release

The University of Pennsylvania men’s lacrosse team defeated Lafayette on Tuesday afternoon, 12-6. The Quakers were up 12-3 before three late Leopards goals set the final score.

Senior captain Nick Doktor led the Penn attack, scoring twice and tying a career high with five assists for seven points. Junior Kevin Brown had not scored this season before Tuesday, but he had four goals — three in the first half — to help aid the cause, while Reilly Hupfeldt (Haverford School) added two more to his team-leading total.

At the other end, reigning Ivy League Rookie of the Week Reed Junkin made an early case for those same honors next week; he had 16 saves and allowed just four goals (a staggering .800 save percentage) before giving way to Jimmy Sestilio late.

Brown got Penn started, scoring the only goal in the first quarter and the first in the second period. Matt Close got one of those back for Lafayette, but Penn responded less than a minute later when Alex Roesner made it 3-1. Eric Joseph made it 3-2 for the Leopards, but Simon Mathias and then Brown made it 5-2 for the Quakers. Joseph’s second of the day sent the teams to halftime with Penn’s lead at 5-3.

Penn put it away in the third quarter, scoring all five goals in the period. Kevin McGeary (Malvern Prep) scored two of the them, as did Doktor including the knockout with just one second left in the period.

Penn tacked on two more goals in the first seven minutes of the fourth quarter, from Hupfeldt and Brown, before Lafayette scored three late tallies.

Kevin Gayhardt (Episcopal Academy) had three groundballs and Noah Lejman (Haverford School) had two GBs to lead the Penn defense.

Penn is back in action on Saturday, traveling to the Main Line to face No. 13 Villanova at 4 p.m.
