The Lehigh women’s lacrosse team used a 5-0 run to open a 6-1 lead and wouldn’t look back as the Mountain Hawks beat Colgate, 13-6 in the Patriot League Quarterfinals on Tuesday evening. The win marked Lehigh’s first postseason victory since 2010, which was also at home. The Mountain Hawks advance to the Patriot League Semifinals where they’ll play at top seed Loyola on Friday at 5 p.m.

The win was Lehigh’s 10th straight home victory as the Mountain Hawks improve to 13-4 on the season. Lehigh snapped a six-game losing streak against the Raiders while in the process, avenging a 10-8 regular season loss at Colgate just 10 days ago.

“I’m excited for our team,” said Lehigh head coach Jill Redfern. “Coach Sammy (Cermack’s) offensive game plan was terrific tonight and Coach Shannon (McHugh) provided an equally great plan for the defensive side. Our girls really knew their personnel really well and delivered on their jobs. So many people played well to execute a great game plan.”

Junior Lauren Beausoleil led the offense with a career-high seven points, including four goals and a career-high three assists. Over the last two games, Beausoleil has now posted 12 points behind nine goals and three assists.

“Lauren was terrific tonight and her confidence was through the roof,” said Redfern. “She put some great shots away. We rely on her all over the field. She was outstanding.”

Junior Allison LaBeau added three goals and two assists while classmate Julianne D’Orazio (Merion Mercy) scored three goals for her first-career hat trick. Senior Kendall Garden also scored twice. Garden and D’Orazio each had two caused turnovers to lead the defense while junior Taylor Tvedt impressed in goal, making nine saves.

“Taylor got off to a great start back there, which is always great for confidence,” said Redfern. “I’m really thrilled with how she played, and our defense in front of her gave her some really good shots to save, too.”

The teams traded goals in the early going before the Mountain Hawks staged a 5-0 run, beginning and ending with goals from Beausoleil to give Lehigh a 6-1 lead with 12:27 left in the first half.

The Raiders responded with two straight goals, but Garden came back with the next two, including one with just 10 seconds remaining, to give Lehigh an 8-3 lead at the half.

Colgate scored three of the first five second-half goals to pull within 10-6 with 22:12 still on the second-half clock. Beausoleil responded with a goal, before assisting LaBeau’s third goal of the game and 44th of the season, to give the Mountain Hawks a 12-6 lead From there, only one goal was scored the rest of the way, Beasueoleil’s fourth, to account for the 13-6 final.

Final shots were 24-18 in favor of Lehigh while the Mountain Hawks held a 13-8 edge in groundballs. Lehigh finished with an 11-10 advantage in draw controls. Tvedt’s nine saves came across Asil Asfour, who made four for Colgate.

The Mountain Hawks advance to the Patriot League Semifinals and will face top seed and host Loyola on Friday at 5 p.m. at the Ridley Athletic Complex.
