From Press Release
Upper River Sports has announced a two-week option for its new summer lacrosse program in Philadelphia. The two-week program offers the Upper River Lax summer development camp experience of intense practices, tournament play and expert guests in shorter time period.
The intensive two-week programs will feature twice-daily practices, high level coaching, position and skill work, and tournament play along with college recruiting exposure and guidance. Upper River Sports takes the best aspects of club teams and high-performance development programs but offers them with the fun and friendship of a traditional summer camp. Starting summer 2015, this experience will be available to those unable to commit to the full month program.
“The program is designed for each individual to improve their game in the time they are with the Upper River Lax staff,” said head coach Brian Scheetz. “The two week option will give athletes an experience of what college lacrosse demands.”
Scheetz comes to URLax as a three-time All-American and the top scorer in the history of Mercyhurst University Lacrosse. He has been coaching at the collegiate level for two years.
Residential options are available at Villanova University; players will practice on turf and grass fields on the Main Line outside of Philadelphia.
Upper River Sports takes a holistic approach with players. Top professional athletes and DI coaches help athletes improve their physical, technical and mental game. Goalie instructors will be available periodically, along with experts on nutrition, youth fitness and psychological toughness.
“Upper River Lax is all about the process of getting better – focusing on each practice and each day so that you get the most out of what you’re doing,” explained J.D. Bridges, founder of Upper River Sports.
The development camp programs are complete packages – Upper River takes care of everything from tournament registration to travel. This provides simplicity, convenience and peace of mind to parents and athletes alike. Campers can just focus on the goal – getting better by putting process over wins.
“That’s in contrast to only caring about outcomes, but it’s a proven fact in sport and exercise science that focusing on process actually produces better results,” said Bridges. “That’s what we’re about at UR.”
