“Our offense stepped up nicely and our defense came up big in the last game,” said Team Long Island midfielder Bobby Abshire (Commack), who had one goal “Our goalies were also great in cage.

“We played seven games over the past three days so we were basically playing non-stop lacrosse which helped us stay focused.”

Team Long Island used strong defense and stingy zone to thwart the Dukes attack.

“We basically just wanted to see how their shooters were at first,” said Abshire. “We started off in a zone to see who their really good players were and we just went from there.”

Duke’s L.C. coach Ebe Helm credited the Team Long Island goalies while also praising his team.

“We had a lot of shots we just didn’t capitalize,” he said. “Their two goalies played extremely well.

“We’re disappointed we didn’t three-peat, but we were shorthanded and the kids played their guts out to get us in the championship. We just came up a little short.”

Ethan Lamond (MF/ATT, La Salle) scored two goals for the Dukes while Chris Cara (Conestoga) and Michael DiGiacomo (St. Anne’s Belfield VA) each scored once.

Helm also cited the strong play of face-off specialist Mike Sisselberger (Southern Lehigh), defensemen Joey Burnham (La Salle), Hunter Jaronski (New Hope Solebury, 2019), Tanner Long (Germantown Academy), Logan Blondell (Soputhern Lehigh) and Jake Keller (Hun School), and goalie Liam Rosenthal (Central Bucks East, 2019).
