From Press Release
Swarthmore College head coach Pat Gress has announced the schedule for the 2015 men’s lacrosse season. The Garnet boasts a competitive non-conference schedule featuring seven contests against six different conferences, including three 2014 conference champions. Additionally, the Garnet will pursue an always coveted Centennial Conference championship as they navigate a rigorous in-conference schedule against some of the nation’s top Division 3 programs.
“The schedule will once again feature a competitive mix of non-conference games against teams that typically win or compete for their own conference championship and the always rigorous Conference games, “said head coach Pat Gress.
The Garnet’s 15-game schedule features eight home contests – including the Feb. 28 home opener against Widener University – to be played on Clothier Field. However, Swarthmore will open the season Feb. 21on the road against reigning Freedom Conference champion, Eastern University, and continue non-conference play until they open Centennial Conference season on March 31 against Ursinus College.
Coach Gress commented on the leadership of the 2015 senior class and a successful off-season, “the seniors have taken ownership of the off-season conditioning program and have provided enthusiastic leadership since fall lacrosse ended in October.”
Swarthmore will open the month of March on the 4th when they host Drew University on Clothier Field. The Garnet will continue their three-game home stand when they play host to Vassar College on March 7th. The Garnet will then head west for a two game stint in California as they compete against Gordon College on March 11th and Independent Conference powerhouse, Whittier College, on March 13th.
Why is competition in the Centennial so challenging? “In the Centennial, there are no off days – every team has players who compete at the highest level,” said Pat Gress.
The Garnet will return to Swarthmore for their Centennial Conference opener against Ursinus College on March 21st. Swarthmore will close out March with competitions against Muhlenberg College in Allentown, PA on the 25th and at home on the 28th against Misericordia College.
Swarthmore will open and close April in Conference as they compete six times over the course of 25 days. The run will begin at home against Gettysburg College on the 4th and continue when the Garnet travel to Westminster, MD on April 8th for a match with McDaniel College.
The Garnet will close the 2015 regular season campaign with the remaining four games of a six game Centennial Conference stretch. Beginning at Clothier Field, Swarthmore will compete against Franklin and Marshall College on Saturday, April 11th. The run continues a week later on the road as Swarthmore heads to Carlisle, PA to battle Dickinson College on Saturday, April 17th.
Swarthmore’s home finale will take place on Wednesday, April 22nd at 7 p.m. when they take on reigning Centennial Conference Champion, Washington College. The 2015 regular season and six game Centennial Conference stretch will come to a close as the Garnet travel the 10 miles to local rival, Haverford College, on Saturday, April 25th at 1 p.m.
The 2015 Centennial Tournament will be held on April 29 and May 2. The top four teams in the regular season qualify for the playoffs, with the highest seed earning the right to host the tournament.
