STEPS Elite Philadelphia girls’ HS roundup: Agnes Irwin rolls, Friends’ Central wins in 3OT, GFS triumphs

Laura Pansini scored five goals and Lila Barker added three goals, three caused turnovers and two draw controls as Agnes Irwin claimed a 15-5 win over Notre Dame Academy today to open the 2015 girls’ lacrosse season.Steps Philly copy

Kristin Burnetta added two goals and four assists for Agnes Irwin and Hannah Keating had three goals and two groundballs while goalie Hailey Andress (five saves), Kate White (three caused turnovers, three groundballs, three draw controls and two interceptions) and Sarah Platt (two caused turnovesa and two groundbals led the defense.

Friends’ Central 13, Springside Chestnut Hill Academy 12, 3 OT

Lorna MacFarlane scored with one second left in regulation to force overtime and Jesse Rubin tallied the game-winner as the Phoenix earned the thrilling opener.

Anne Pizzini posted 12 saves, including two in overtime. Rubin led Friends’ Central with three goals and MacFarlane had two goals and two assists while Emily Tedesco and Sophie Berger each scored twice and Lisa Bernstein had three caused turnovers and took two charges.

Sinead Brierly led SCHA with five goals and Mikaela Watson added three goals and an assist while Natalie Schwartz added three goals.

Germantown Friends 11, Baldwin School 3

Annie Tyson collected three goals, three assists and five groundballs and Greta Meyers scored three times to lead GFS in its opener.

Ava Schwemler added two goals and an assist and Corin Grady posted four saves for the victory in goal.

For Baldwin, Eliza Mantelmacher, Marissa McGarry and Ive Gonzalez each scored once.
