Dustin Buchanan and Jack Auteri each scored twice for the Patriots (19-4), who utilized a dominant third quarter to overcome a one-goal deficit at halftime.

Patrick Camilli scored three goals for the three-time defending District 11 champion Green Hornets (14-8). Matthew Horton stopped 17 shots.

Down 3-2 at halftime, the Patriots reeled off six consecutive goals to take control. Buchanan, Porter, Vetter and Nelsen scored in the third quarter.

“You can’t afford to take anyone lightly in the state tournament,” said Vetter, a senior attacker.

Sean McGovern stopped six shots for C.B. East, the No. 4 seed from District 1, which will take on Springfield-Delco (a 9-8 OT winner over Hershey) in the second round.

Down 3-2 at halftime, the Patriots reeled off six consecutive goals to take control. Buchanan, Porter, Vetter and Nelsen scored in the third quarter.

“We were focusing on making better shots in the second half,” Vetter said. “The results were better.”

During the intermission, head coach Bruce Garcia attempted to relax the team. He could tell by the placement of the players’ shots.

“So many of our guys were playing catch with the goalkeeper,” Garcia said. “I could the nerves were getting to them.”

According to the coach, the Patriots never went into stall mode against Emmaus.

“We knew we had to keep the throttle down,” Garcia said. “We knew Emmaus would not give up.”

Early on, C.B. East got several good offensive looks, but could not convert them, according to Vetter.

“We couldn’t finish,” he said. “And (Horton) made some great saves.”
