Philly women’s roundup: Villanova, Delaware, La Salle, Penn, Princeton, St. Joe’s win

The Villanova women’s lacrosse team (4-4) finally brought its record even in a stellar Maine Line victory at Villanova Stadium on Saturday afternoon as it defeated High Point 11-10, in a triple overtime thriller. Spearheading the Nova attack was senior co-captain Jackie Froccaro who posted a career high six goals against the Panthers; five of which came in the second half.

In the second half of the third overtime period, junior Meghan Breen posted her first goal of the game as she fought off two HPU defenders to end the three hour long competition with 1:26 left.

Froccaro posted six goals against the Panthers for a new career high and a team high for an individual goal-scorer this season. Froccaro scored five of her six goals in the second half with three of them in a five minute span. One goal came from a free-position shot in the second half and four were unassisted challenges at the High Point GK Julia Burns.

Delaware 15, George Washington 4

Casey Lyons and McKenzie Rafferty each had three goals and Shannon Hawley added two goals and four assists for the Blue Hens (7-3).

La Salle 15, Sacred Heart 5

Caitlyn Brostrand (camden Catholic) and Katelyn Fay (Henderson) paced the Explorers (4-3) with four goals each. Brostrand added an assist for a game-high five points. Allee Ilgenfritz added four points, all on assists. Claire Andrews and Kelly Furman (Boyertown) added two goals and an assist each, and Katie Fonte drained two goals. Anna Kelly also scored her first goal of the season to round out the scoring.

Caitlin Delaney (Cherry Hill East) scored twice and added five caused turnovers and four groundballs for the Pioneers (2-5) to lead the visitors.

Loyola 10, Lehigh 6

Senior Hannah Schmitt (Archbishop Carroll) had two goals and one assist for Loyola (5-4, 3-0 Patriot League).

For Lehigh (3-5, 1-2), Carli Sukonik (Harriton) and Kierstyn Voiro (Moorestown) had two goals apiece.

Penn 10, Dartmouth 5

The Quakers improved to 7-1 overall and 2-0 inside the Ivy League with a 10-5 win over Dartmouth at Franklin Field. Lely DeSimone had three goals for the Quakers, while Tory Bensen, iris Williamson (Germantown Friends) and Lindsey Smith (Unionville) each added two.

Princeton 17, Harvard 12

Tigers coach Chris Sailer (Haverford High) claimed her 350th career win couldn’t have been against a better opponent. Her alma mater, Harvard. Princeton used a big second half to catapult to a 17-11 win over Harvard to improve to 6-1 overall and 2-0 in the Ivy League.

St. Joseph’s 13, Stetson 5

Ten different Hawks registered goals as the Hawks concluded their non-conference schedule with a win over Stetson. With the win, the Hawks improve to 5-3 overall while the Hatters fall to 2-7.

Division II

Bloomsburg 7, West Chester 6

A goal from senior Julie Falk with two seconds remaining sent Bloomsburg to a victory at No. 13 West Chester in the first Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference contest of the season.

The win moves the Huskies to 2-2 overall and 1-0 in PSAC play while nationally ranked West Chester falls to 2-2, 0-1.

Eric Eckert led WCU with two goals and an assist.

Division III

Swarthmore 11, Ursinus 8

Senior Elyse Tierney scored four goals and won five draw controls to help propel the Garnet to a victory over Ursinus in the Centennial Conference opener for both schools. Kathryn Restrepo (Strath Haven) had three goals and an assist to key the win and Briana Narzikul (Episcopal Academy) added two goals.

Emma Ebert (Penn Charter) had three goals and an assist for Ursinus.
