From Press Release
The HEADstrong Lacrosse Club of Pennsylvania (HLCPA) is proud to announce the creation of HEADstrong PA South, an expansion which will introduce three new boys’ teams targeting players specifically from Delaware and Chester counties beginning in fall 2015.
HLCPA is thrilled to introduce the opportunity for boys in the 2020, 2021 and 2022 classes. Open tryouts will take place in early September and details will be formally released in the near future. Newly appointed HLCPA General Manager Jason Wolensky will spearhead the new youth teams embracing an annual format which will encompass fall competition, winter developmental training sessions, a spring community service project and a highly competitive summer season.
The success of HEADstrong North, led by LaSalle College High School Head Coach and 2016 U.S. Men’s National U-19 General Manager Bill Leahy alongside of distinguished coaches Tony Resch and Brian Harrington strongly influenced the expansion.
HEADstrong South is committed to developing the highest caliber athletes while teaching players the importance of sportsmanship, character and giving back to the community and to the game. An emphasis will be placed on making a difference in the local cancer community through service and generating of funds to support the HEADstrong Foundation’s mission. Team HEADstrong South will promote cancer awareness on the field wearing HEADstrong’s signature lime green helmets, gloves and uniforms. Lime Green is the National awareness color for non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, the disease that affected founder Nicholas “HEAD” Colleluori.
“We have talked about adding a youth component for about a year. The middle school kids are just as passionate about the program as the high school kids are. I teach 8th grade my kids ask me about HEADstrong all the time. It represents the continued growth of HEADstrong and means we are reaching a new, younger audience who want to be part of the family. We are very excited to provide this incredible opportunity,” said Wolensky.
“On behalf of the HEADstrong Lacrosse Club we are thrilled to announce the creation of HEADstrong South and know that the experience will truly resonate with youth lacrosse players and families from the area. The new teams provide an opportunity to engage young players and their families. Our hope is that the level of instruction that Jason Wolensky and our team of dedicated coaches will provide will result in confident lacrosse players prepared for playing at the next level. Our Nick believed that players despite their age could accomplish great things and this is a chance for players who are looking to make a difference,” said Michael Colleluori, VP HEADstrong and Nick’s Brother
