From Press Release
Junior attackman George Markey had three goals and three assists Wednesday as visiting Chestnut Hill College defeated Wingate, 17-9, for its first win of the year.
Freshmen attack Dylan Klusaritz (Parkland) and midfielder Brian Sinex (Ridley) connected for the game’s first goal just 50 seconds after Sinex won Chestnut Hill College (1-1) the opening faceoff, 1-0 (14:10). A little more than three minutes later, Markey then found Klusaritz, 2-0 (10:41), and Sinex found Markey to push the Griffins initial advantage to 3-0.
It reached 4-0 a minute later (9:30), when junior attack Tanner Fisher (Port Coquitlam, British Columbia) set up Klusaritz for his second goal. The Bulldogs barked back just after the eight-minute mark (7:52) and added two more goals, the second man-up, to bring the margin to one with 2:56 remaining, 4-3. But a trio of unassisted goals spanned the first-and-second quarter gap to reestablish the Griffin advantage at 7-3 (13:54). After that the Bulldogs never got within less than two goals, trailing the Griffins to a 17-9 final in the programs first-ever meeting.
Markey grabbed two ground balls in addition to his three goals and three assists. Klusaritz matched his goal total and beat him in ground balls (3), but only provided one assist. Freshman midfielder Caleb Gaeng recorded the first two goals of his collegiate career while junior defenseman Derick Darnulc, senior midfielder Nicholas Johnson, junior attack Michael Plaia, and sophomore Justin Albarran all record one tally in the effort. Freshman goalkeeper Thomas McDermott (Ridley) made 12 saves in his first collegiate win (1-1).
