Kristin Burnetta had a career day and Laura Pansini reached a special milestone as host Agnes Irwin (8-1, 3-1) took the lead early and coasted to a 17-2 victory Thursday in a non-league win over Princeton High (N.J.).
Burnetta recorded a season-high nine points on seven assists and two goals. Hannah Keating drilled six goals and added an assist, Lila Barker and Pansini had hat tricks, and Daniela Wright scored twice.
None of AIS’s 17 goals was as special as Pansini’s third goal of the day to complete her hat trick. The Princeton commit took a feed from Barker and drilled home her 100th career goal mid-way through the second half and the Agnes Irwin bench exploded in celebration. Pansini, a junior captain, missed most of her sophomore season with a serious knee injury (ACL surgery), making the milestone especially significant.
“Scoring my 100th goal feels even sweeter coming back from a serious injury. All of the hard work, from rehab to training, has paid off,” said Pansini. “I can’t thank my teammates and Coaches Duck, Raech and Stevie enough. They truly make all of this possible. This is a team achievement. Love my AIS Laxers.”
The Agnes Irwin defense continued its strong season, limiting Princeton’s looks at the cage and causing 10 turnovers. Goalies Hailey Andress and Lauren Avery each made two saves and Andress scooped up a ground ball.
Agnes Irwin will take on Central Bucks South this Saturday as the Owls host four girls games at Phelps Field as part of the seventh annual Nike Checking for Cancer Invitational (www.checkingforcancer.org)
