James Vandegrift led a balanced attack with four goals and three assists as Academy of the New Church defeated host Cardinal Mooney, 16-9, today in its season opener in Sarasota, FL.
Jesse Frazier added three goals and two assists for ANC while Dave Closterman and Kevin Vandegrift each had three goals and one assist and Milo Navarro had two goals and one assist. Eric Carr scored once and won 20 of 26 face-offs while Tom Villante made 13 saves in goal.
The Lions jumped to a 12-3 lead over Cardinal Mooney (4-2), which had won four straight games.
ANC plays Thayer Academy (MA) today in Clearwater.
