Freshman Kevin Vandegrift scored five goals, including the game-winner with 19 seconds to play, as Academy of the New Church defeated Thayer Academy (MA), 13-12, in a thriller to cap a perfect Florida road trip today in Clearwater at the Phillies Complex.
Jesse Frazier collected five goals and one assist and James Vandegrift had three goals and four assists for the Lions (2-0). Cam Elliot has two assists and Dave Closterman and Kevin Vandegrift each had an assist and Tom Villante posted 12 saves in goal.
Eric Carr was strong at the face-off X.
“It was a great experience for our team and we came together as a group and battled,” said ANC coach Rob Forster. “We look forward to our trip down here next year and a positive spring season.”
