University of Delaware women’s lacrosse senior Caitlin McCartney (Archbishop Wood) was named the Inside Lacrosse National Player of the Week while sophomore Kirsten Hale (Great Valley) collected Colonial Athletic Association Defensive Player of the Week honors, as announced by the respective organizations Tuesday morning.
The pair helped guide the #rv Blue Hens (1-0) in stunning then-No. 16 Georgetown, 17-5, Saturday in the team’s season opener at Delaware Stadium.
McCartney collected five points on a team-best four goals and one assist. The midfielder posted the game-winning goal just over 11 minutes into the contest. McCartney’s four tallies moved her into 10th place all-time in Delaware history with 119 career goals scored. She added three draw controls and a groundball in the win.
Hale recorded a game-high and career-best four groundballs against the Hoyas in addition to two caused turnovers. Furthermore, she assisted a goal in the second half of play.
