John Fox added two goals and Jared Chiachetti contributed a goal and two assists for the Hermits (5-1), who must be considered in the national rankings.

Eric Haab and Jake Martellucci each scored twice for the Churchmen (6-3), the No. 5 team in the Epoch North American Rankings and the No. 2 team in the Boys’ Rankings.

Ernie Alvino recorded 10 of his 15 saves in the second half for St. Augustine, which rallied to overcome a 3-2 halftime deficit.

“Ernie played a pretty special game,” Hermits head coach J.C. Valore said. “The way he stepped up in the second half … for him to make a lot of the saves that he did, that was huge.”

The Hermits registered four of the five goals in the third quarter to take control.

“We really got on a roll in the third quarter,” Valore said.

According to Kitchen, Alvino helped set up several key scoring plays with accurate outlet passes.

“Ernie played out of his mind,” Kitchen said.

Kitchen scored the final two goals of the quarter to put his team ahead 6-4. Fox’s goal midway through the fourth quarter staked the team to an insurmountable three-goal edge.

“We really picked up our intensity in the third quarter,” Kitchen said. “We made the game personal.”

Valore described Kitchen as a skilled offensive player who knows how to score.

“In the third quarter, everybody started looking for me when I cut through the crease,” Kitchen said.
