The First Annual AILA Heritage Cup took place at BucksMont Indoor Sports Center over the Martin Luther King Holiday weekend. The indoor tournament featured 20 registered teams and some very good and spirited competition, organized into 4 brackets according to “indoor” terminology – Pee Wee (Grades 5/6), Bantam (Grades 7/8), Midget Minor (high school JV) and Midget Major (high school varsity) .

The event also featured multiple clinic sessions led by Johnny Mouradian, Director of the Canadian National Indoor Lacrosse Program, and other members of the AILA staff. The clinics focused on indoor “Canadian-style” techniques to help players become more effective in the outdoor game, consistent with the accelerating convergence of box and field lacrosse concepts and the latest teaching methods.

The Champions of each the brackets were as follows, team pictures are posted at

• Pee Wee Major Bracket (5th/6th grades) – Rising Sons (PA)

• Bantam Major Bracket (7th/8th grades) – Team 91 (NY)
• Midget Minor Bracket (High School JV) – Building Blocks Lacrosse / BBL (NJ)
• Midget Major Bracket (high School) – The Haverford School (PA)

The championship games in the Bantam and Midget Major brackets were particularly competitive, with Team 91 and Rising Sons trading leads throughout the game in a very exciting and well played 11-9 Bantam-level game. The Rising Sons trailed much of the game but tied the score at 9 with just over a minute remaining and appeared to have the momentum until a penalty forced the Sons to play short-handed in the waning moments against the talented team from Long Island.
