Chris Morgan (Spring-Ford) posted four saves and Ben Minardi (Perkiomen Valley) scored twice today as 380 Lacrosse defeated Rock Lacrosse (MD), 5-4, to win the 2016 AA Division title and the Play Huge Purse at the Boys’ Summer Slam at Westtown School.
The Play Huge Purse features a $5,000 team credit for STX equipment, the second payoff in the Victory Events series. A few weeks ago, Stick Star Lacrosse won the $5,000 Play Huge Purse at the Texas Draw.
“It feels great because we’ve worked our hardest since this program started,” midfielder Tanner Pajakinas (Berks Catholic) said. “A couple of us have been here forever, and it feels nice to win this big sum of cash for our program.”
The 380 defense was strong all tournament long, allowing just 19 goals in five wins
“It’s a team effort, we’ve been playing together for four years now,” Morgan said. “We have a lot of good players, when we play together we’re just a great team.”
Alex Rhodes scored late in the first half to give 380 a 3-2 lead. Goals by Pajakinas and Ryan Todd (Spring-Ford) pushed the lead to 5-2, 380 lacrosse used long possessions and a few costly penalties to hold off a late Rock rally.
“We’re always trying our hardest, we try not to take any team lightly,” Morgan said. “We don’t want to come out flat, we always come out playing our best, and I think we really turned it on in the second half.”
